Marathon Journey Week 12
MARATHON JOURNEY

After nearly three weeks away from my training, I finally reached a point where I couldn’t stay away any longer. I didn't fully understand why I needed such a long break until this week. I didn't jump back in exactly where I left off, and that’s a good thing—I needed to change things up.

Overcoming the Nerves
On Monday, I told myself I’d just walk to get back into the groove. By Tuesday and Wednesday, I still didn't feel quite right. In the past, I’ve pushed myself to go even when I didn't feel like it, but this time I realized I was waiting for the right knowledge to move forward.
By Thursday, the urge to jog was getting loud, but I was nervous since it had been so long. I decided that if the "want" was still there on Friday, I would go for it.
The Friday Spark
Friday finally felt like a running day. I decided to throw out my old plan and just listen. I started walking for five minutes and then decided to try a one-minute jog. When that minute was up, I felt like I could do more. Two minutes passed, and I still felt strong, so I pushed to three minutes. After a four-minute walking break, I did another three-minute jog.
I was so freaking excited! Hitting those three-minute intervals after three weeks off was huge. It made me feel, for the first time, like I am absolutely completing a marathon this October. The best part? I wasn’t even sore afterward.
The Power of the Step Back
I thought that because I’d been resting, my body would be weaker. But my mindset had changed, and that made all the difference. I took Saturday as a rest day to prep for a long day of walking at the Lilac Festival on Sunday, and I’m heading into Week 13 with a brand-new excitement.
It is amazing what can be accomplished when you are willing to take a step back. This break wasn't just for my leg; it was for my soul. I’ve re-evaluated my dreams, and I’m ready to find my own pace.
Remember to consult your doctor before starting any new physical activities. Finding your own rhythm will always benefit you more than trying to follow someone else’s.
I love you.
